I remember asking my grandmother where the bin was, she didn’t have one, everything had a place in a system of use, re-use and recycling. She could make clothes, grow food and she was a great cook. I'm lucky I got to experience her way of thinking up close, lucky also that my uncles worked with their hands, practised their crafts and made things. For all the good of a book based education its good to be able to make things too, to understand materials and processes. It gives you agency, makes you less helpless and more creative - more than just a consumer.
